"Into the Woods"
Written by Stephen Sondheim Directed by Phillip K. Duggins
Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, is an award-winning musical with a beautiful message and a very intricate story. Imagine the tales of Little Red Ridinghood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and Rapunzel all intertwined. Add a Baker and his Wife on a quest to have, and then to protect, a child; a very human Witch soon to be made once-again-beautiful, powerless, and bitter; and a Narrator to weave the tale, then tragically become a part of it. Throw in (adulterous) cameo appearances by Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, and you have some idea of the basic plot. It's like Disney gone horribly wrong: a big fairy tale soap opera.
